Oliver's Camp

Established by pioneer Paul Oliver in 1992 this camp is for safari enthusiasts wanting more than the postcard-snaps of the Big Five. Set in the secluded Tarangire National Park, it’s a camp that celebrates back-to-basics luxury in one of the most uncrowded corners of East Africa.

The camp features only 8 beautifully furnished guest tents. Solid wooden furniture, beautiful cloth and gorgeous warm showers that can be taken under the Tarangire sky. Every evening, guests relax or read in the lounge and library tent, or drink sundowners at the fireplace, from which superb views of landscape and sunset can be enjoyed

Oliver's Camp's crew has been a team for many years and as a result, a stay in camp feels like joining into a warm family. A family that will not only prepare amazing meals for you, but one that will also share with you a deeper knowledge of this stunning national park and its inhabitants.

Game Drives
Game drives within the Tarangire National Park are offered twice per day. Off-road driving makes wildlife drives more intense and interesting and allows you to get closer to the action.

Night game drives
There’s also the opportunity to see some of Tanzania’s famous ‘nightlife’, with unforgettable night drives permitted within Tarangire.
Walking safari
Walking is the absolute specialty of Oliver's Camp. The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you'll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe. The experienced guides of Oliver's Camp and an armed national park ranger will accompany you on every walk. Walking safaris can take an hour or a whole morning or afternoon, but combined with fly camping, they can take several days, letting you discover the most remote parts of Tarangire.

Fly and Bush Camping
The fly camp is typically booked as part of a walking safari or simply as an exclusive and private night away from the main camp. This small and intimate lightweight camp is a fantastic experience for those seeking something a little more adventurous.

Bush breakfasts and Picnic
For those keen to get in some early game viewing or maximize their time watching game our camp chef can prepare a delicious packed breakfast or lunch.

Off road game drives
Here, on privately owned land, guides and guests have more liberty to explore: off-road driving is permitted to track down once-in-a-lifetime sightings, while bush picnics and sundowner drinks make for memorable moments in the heart of the East African bush.

Tarangire Treetops

The totally eccentric but equally luxurious Tarangire Treetops Lodge is situated among the giant baobab trees on the outskirts of the Tarangire National Park. You will find this magic Never land at the end of a long road that winds its way through a stunningly beautiful patchwork of grassy savanna and looming baobab trees. Like a burst of tawny fireworks, leaping impala explode from the bush as you turn into the Lodge's main entrance. Upon first glance at the surreal surroundings, you will feel like you've suddenly stepped foot into a fairytale.

Centered about a Main Lodge - which itself encases a thousand year-old baobab tree - Tarangire Treetops comprises of 20 tree houses all of which are elevated above the ground affording views over the tops of surrounding marula and baobab trees.

Each treehouse boasts one of the largest bedrooms to be found in any camp or lodge in East Africa – with a floor space of 65 square metres – and all with an exotic double shower en suite bathroom. With furnishings that create warmth and demonstrate a commitment to local craftsmanship, the ‘up-in-the-air’ experience is completed by the open-fronted room design affording views across the Tarangire plains from an expansive but private balcony.

Swala's Camp

In the heart of Maasai country and a remote corner of the Tarangire, in total seclusion amongst giant acacia trees and looking out beyond the flat savannah, Sanctuary Swala offers a very exclusive safari experience. The picturesque landscape is filled with ancient baobab trees, ambling elephants and birds in flight. Built to the highest eco-friendly standards, this camp has a particularly low-carbon footprint.

Each of the twelve canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well frequented water hole. They are unashamedly luxurious and exquisitely furnished but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas and boasts an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower for that extra bit of luxury. Sip cocktails or enjoy scrumptious dinners on your own private veranda and watch the waterhole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants while your own personal attendant caters for your every need.

Its oasis of palms and stunning views of the Rift Valley's western escarpment make it an ideal safari escape. A sanctuary in the African wilderness, Chem Chem is a treasure for travelers seeking a new experience in adventure, relaxation, and pleasure.

The 8 stylish and secluded tented suites evoke the spirit of a vintage contemporary safari, and are situated in a private palm-island enjoying wonderful views of the lake.  Each suite is a combination of canvas, lava-stones and wood.    They are a minimum of 80 metres apart to ensure total privacy.

Features in them are a bedroom with spectacular views, reading corner, dressing room, bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, terrace, patio with lush daybed surrounded by trees, dressing gown and slippers, in-room safe, Yoga mats, hair-dryer, and intercom telephone.

There is also a family unit which is constructed in the same way as the above suites, but includes a vintage tented room with its own bathroom (indoor shower) and dressing area.  The 2 rooms are built on the same platform and are connected by a small wooden bridge.

These tented rooms contain 2 single beds, rocking chair and small desk, viewing terrace and their own private entry.   They can sleep up to 4 children or 2 adults.  The very light and open design of the permanent principal house structure reflects the form of a landing flamingo with its two large widespread wings.  One wing includes a full service gourmet restaurant, and an outside fire place.   The other wing contains the bar, a lounge with fireplace, and a fully stocked library.

Tarangire Safari Lodge

Tarangire Safari Lodge, an owner-managed lodge is the oldest in the park, with a sublime location on a tall bluff overlooking the Tarangire River. This comfortable, unpretentious & well managed lodge ranks as one of our favorites anywhere on the northern circuit. The accommodation in standing tents with en-suite toilets is outstanding value.

All rooms boast incredible views over the valley and offer a spacious and comfortable retreat. The canvas tents are sturdy and spacious and each has a thatched roof and veranda from which to view the plains. The en suite bathrooms offer solar-heated showers.

The five stone bungalows are built from local stone in the circular style of Maasai huts. The thick walls, large windows and thatched roofs ensure that the rooms remain cool during the African summer, and the spacious en suite bathroom has a large shower with solar heated water. Walk out onto a shaded veranda with views over the waterhole. These rooms can easily be converted into family rooms or triple units, creating a wonderful haven for small families.
