Elephant Pepper Camp is situated in the prime core of the protected Mara North Conservancy wilderness area. In the same location for 20 years, one of the original, very small and exclusive tented camps, Elephant Pepper is located away from other lodges, in the heart of the African bush. Our spacious canvas tents are comfortably furnished, featuring en suite bathrooms with eco-friendly flush toilets and traditional safari showers. Nothing rivals sitting around the campfire enjoying the sounds of the African night. Enjoying extended game drives in the best 4x4 game drive vehicles, clients participate in the most unique wildlife experience in the world. Elephant Pepper Camp brings people back to nature – no traffic, no permanent structures, just the sights and sounds of the African bush

    Mara North Conservancy

    OVERVIEW
    Kicheche Mara Camp is one of the best value safari camps in the Mara Conservation Area. This is a well put together, traditional safari camp, and it's somewhere you'll get excellent game viewing and comfortable accommodation, without having to re-mortgage your house. Kicheche may not be as intimate as some of the smaller camps at eleven double tents, but it still manages to provide an excellent service and all in all is one of our favorites.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Spacious, fully insect-proof Selous style tents (eight twins/doubles). All equipped with cedar beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, shower and flushing toilet and running water.

    Triple tents and family tents (1 double & 2 single beds) are available on request.

    DINING
    All meals and drinks are inclusive and most meals are taken alfresco, beneath the shade of the acacia trees or underneath the stars or in our dining tent. We have a fully stocked bar with a range of wines. Drinks are included with the meals. Picnic breakfasts and lunches are also available on game driving excursions.

    ACTIVITIES
    Game driving is available throughout the area and your program is arranged daily with your guide. Trips to the local Maasai villages are on offer for those interested in Maasai culture. There are a number of escorted nature walks available from the camp. All walks are escorted by a Kicheche guide with a radio, and an armed ranger. Walks are included in our package tariff. Guests leave on foot in the afternoon from camp and walk to a bush camp that has been set up consisting of dome tents and a single bush shower and toilet. Upon arrival, guests can enjoy drinks around the fire and a three course meal for dinner. Guests depart for the Bush camp on foot, shortly after breakfast, the following morning.

    OVERVIEW
    Karen Blixen Camp offers an authentic ‘yesteryear’ experience for visitors wishing to gain that little extra from their safari, where one can obtain a sense of the exiting explorer days when such areas were
    seldom visited and sometimes after months of traveling – elaborate and comfortable camps were set up providing a luxurious and stylish retreat to come back to at the end of each days adventure. Most of the Camp furniture has been specifically designed and made for Karen Blixen Camp to fit in with this exciting era where one can sit back and relax
    with a gin and tonic overlooking the river.

    ACCOMMODATION
    The Camp comprises 22 spacious en-suite tents (4.6m x 8m) set on large mahogany platforms (5m x 13m) - each with a spacious veranda complete with a cozy cushion filled day bed from which one can enjoy
    the perfect afternoon siesta or simply relax taking in the wonderful surroundings watching the throng of thirsty animals coming to the waters edge to drink as well as the spectacular scenery. Tents can be configured for either double or twin occupancy, where under prior arrangement 3rd and even 4th beds can be added for children/adults. Each of the tents is en-suite and has a w.c., twin wash hand basins and an outside starlit shower with hot and cold running water. The tents have all been appointed with solid, comfortable furniture so that you have the ultimate in camping-luxury to come back to after exciting game drives or walks in the conservancy. 19 tents – including our family unit which comprises two tents with a shared balcony/veranda are placed along the river bank, whilst 3 tents are on raised platforms offering incredible views of the surrounding area.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Game drives are encouraged within Mara North Conservancy for the utmost exclusive and private safari experience with low impact tourism and controlled vehicle density. On request and during the great migration we drive into the Masai Mara National Reserve.
    • Game walking with armed guides is arranged for those who wish to experience the magnitude of the Mara savannah on foot.
    • Nature walks are kept within the camp and focus entirely on the rich birdlife and little insects inhabiting the area and how the Masai make use of the indigenous plants for medical and ritual purposes.
    • Balloon safaris will take you high above the impressive Masai Mara plains, and gliding quietly through the wind is truly a magical and breathtaking experience.
    • Community visits to the local Maasai Manyatta (village), school, market and church gives anyone interested a closer understanding of the proud Maasai people and their heritage as an important part of the Masai Mara Ecosystem.

    The perfect base for your exclusive safari adventure is the Exploreans Mara Rianta Camp, nestled in the heart of the Mara North Conservancy, north of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, just a few minutes drive from several airstrips which are serviced with daily flights. The luxury tented accommodation and buildings are directly overlooking the Mara river which winds itself around the camp with gently flowing waters surrounded with wild life and teeming with large groups of hippos. The camp is immersed in the original bush among indigenous plantations and trees. The Exploreans Mara Rianta Camp is a proud member of the MNC, Mara North Conservancy.

    ACCOMMODATION
    All 20 luxury tents are built on elevated wooden platforms and have their own private viewing deck from where hippo and other wildlife are regularly seen! Each room has a King size or twinbed with comfortable mattresses and fine linens, the en-suite facilities with solar-heated hot and cold running water consist of a large shower, two hand wash basins, a private WC with bidet shower and a Jacuzzi bathtub at some selected tents. There is a comfortable sitting area with lounge chairs, a writing desk, an in-room safe and a butler call button that allows you to order refreshing drinks or to set up private dining on your deck and ensures that your every need is taken care of.

    Olare Orok Conservancy
    OVERVIEW
    Kicheche Bush Camp is a small, classic, intimate, luxury tented camp completely unfenced, amongst stunning whistling thorn acacias. The ultra low-impact spread of six guests tents in the trees and low escarpment beyond, provide the perfect hideaway in this outstanding wilderness.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Six spacious luxury tents, fully insect-proof, with en-suite bathrooms and a flushing toilet, running cold water and hot safari showers. Solar power is provided 24 hours to your tent and the comfortable verandah chairs are perfect to relax in and offer great views over the game-filled plains. One tent can be converted into a triple on request. There is a well furnished lounge and dining tent, although mealtimes are generally alfresco if weather permits.

    ACTIVITIES
    Daily Routine
    Guests are woken with tea, coffee or hot chocolate & biscuits brought to their tent. An early morning game drive sets off at sunrise and returns to the camp late morning. Breakfast is a leisurely affair taken outside in the morning sunlight. Lunch is also served al-fresco in the shade of an acacia tree. During the heat of the day, relax and appreciate the silence, punctuated only by birdcalls. Alternatively, utilise our reference library in the lounge tent, which has a good selection of books. An afternoon game drive departs around 16h00 after tea and returns after sundowners. Freshen up before joining other guests around the campfire for a pre-dinner drink. Dinner is served by candlelight al-fresco or in the dining tent. Take a nightcap by the fire before retiring. Rigid daily schedules are not on our agenda, there are no hard and fast rules at Kicheche so guests can decide on the duration and frequency of their drives but this is much easier if you have booked sole use of vehicle. Picnic breakfasts, lunches and sundowner drinks are popular options to include on game drives.

    Olare Orok Camp
    OVERVIEW
    Porini Lion Camp is located in the exclusive 20,000 acre Olare Orok Conservancy. This expansive conservancy, which borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve is home to an abundance of animals including the Big Cats for which the Mara is famous.

    ACCOMMODATION
    The eco-friendly camp has no permanent construction and is situated along the Ntiakatiak River, a seasonal river with permanent hippo pools near camp. With 10 guest tents the camp is very exclusive and giving you a real in the bush experience. The tents are very spacious and have private verandahs along the length of the tent, providing
    a secluded and private ‘space’ for you to relax and enjoy the beauty of this African wilderness. Each tent has ensuite bathrooms with flush toilets and
    hot showers.

    Mara Plains Camp

    Olare Orok Conservancy
    OVERVIEW
    Mara Plains Camp is a small, high quality, seven-roomed camp under canvas that is located within the private Olare Orok Conservancy and just a few hundred meters to the north of the Masai Mara National Reserve boundary.  The camp has been designed and built to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

    ACCOMMODATION
    The camp is situated along the Ntiakatek River with views of the surrounding plains and riverine forest.  The camp caters for only 14 guests in seven spacious and comfortable en suite canvas rooms built on raised decks.  There are additional tents for a pilot or private guide or for slightly larger groups.
    Power is provided 24 hours via the solar inverter.  Please note the inverter cannot run hair dryers.  Phone and camera batteries can be charged in tents.

    Rekero has a long and proud history in the Mara that lends to it a depth of character and low-key authenticity that is the hallmark of this luxury tented camp. Rekero is enfolded in wilderness, the camp nestles under huge deciduous trees, hippos grunt in the pools below the mess deck, the fragrance of wild sage floats on the air and guests can often watch the migration crossing the Talek River just 50 meters from the camp lawn.     Kicheche Valley is an intimate luxury tented camp composed of only 6 tents sitting on platforms amongst the trees and rocky outcrops. With strict controls on bed and vehicle numbers in this community driven conservation area, a high quality wilderness experience is assured all year round.

    Kicheche Valley offers 6 stunning tents sited on platforms. The tent decks provide the perfect location to relax and soak in the wilderness as birds fly through and the animals pass by. Each tent is spacious, fully insect-proof and equipped with a desk, sofa and luggage racks. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and hot and cold running water.     MEALS & DRINKS
    All meals and drinks are inclusive in your stay and taken al-fresco in a clearing overlooking the plains or, in the event of bad weather, in the spacious lounge/dining tent. The cuisine is Western/European with occasional African dishes and hygiene standards are high. We can cater for special dietary requirements however please notify us in advance. Mineral water is provided in each tent every day.

    Encounter Mara Camp

    OVERVIEW
    Situated in a conservancy boasting one of the lowest tourist densities in the surrounding area (136 ha per bed), Encounter Mara offers exclusive safari experiences  away from the crowds so often accustomed to other parts of the Masai Mara. Guests at Encounter Mara will often find themselves the only vehicle in sight, while their personal Masai guide will passionately reveal a world of wonder to their eyes.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Each of Encounter Mara’s twelve spacious tents features their own private veranda with a view over the surrounding savannah.  Tents are constructed out of canvas and natural materials and furnished with handmade furniture.   Tucked into the edge of the forest, the tents are side-facing, which allows for a larger veranda as well as a “bathroom with a view.”  With a generous spacing between tents, guests have an entirely private space for personal relaxation. The tents boast simple and elegant décor, soaking in the beauty of the surrounding bush.

    OVERVIEW
    Serian (meaning “peaceful, calm or serene” in Maa) is the charismatic bush home of Alex Walker, filmmaker and guide in the Masai Mara.

    Serian is set in a secluded valley. It’s eight, stylish ‘marquees’ overlook the waters of the Mara River. !e furnishings evoke the safaris of a bygone era: the natural colours of woven carpets on hardwood flooring and swathes of cotton setting off the colonial-style furniture and pale canvas walls. Each tent has a bush bathroom, a hand-carved stone bath with river view, and a large verandah from which to enjoy the animals coming to the Mara River.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Seven private (inc one family) marquee, each unique in their own way furnished with large double beds, flanked by bedside tables and writing desks, the adjoining "bush bathrooms" include a shower, twin basins, large bush bathtub and flush toilet. Hanging swathes of cotton and canvas walls provide complete privacy.

    The Mess deck and indoor fireplace leave one with the impression of having found a home from home! Enjoying an expansive view of the Mara river and the Oloololo escarpment, the deck area plays host to a great deal of wining & dining.

    Olooloo Escarpment

    OVERVIEW
    Set on a private concession leased from Maasai landlords, the Kichwa Tembo Camp lies at the base of the Oloololo escarpment just below the spot where Out of Africa’s most famous scene was shot. The camp overlooks the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra.

    ACCOMMODATION
    40 hemingway-style safari tents (28 classic safari tents and 12 luxury tents) with en suite bathroom. The tents are spacious and have a shower, hand basin and w.c. Each tent has two extra length three-quarter
    beds. Each luxury tent has a double bed that can convert to twins.

    ACTIVITIES
    Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, bird watching and daily lectures by a Maasai naturalist. Optional excursions at an additional cost include night game-drives on the lodge’s private concession, guided walking trails up and along the Oloololo escarpment, a Maasai community visit, sundowners at a location with spectacular views across the Mara and hot air ballooning.

    Oloololo Escarpment

    OVERVIEW
    &Beyond Bateleur Camp is situated on the western border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in southwestern Kenya. Set on a private concession leased from Maasai landlords, the camp lies at the base of the Oloololo escarpment just below the spot where Out of Africa’s most famous scene was shot. The camp overlooks the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of what is considered to be the greatest spectacle in the animal kingdom – the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra from the
    Serengeti National Park of Tanzania.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Two intimate camps each with just nine spacious tents with shingle roof, wooden doors and a private deck. Each tent is luxuriously furnished with gleaming wooden floors and wood-framed beds, overhead fan, twin hand basins, shower, private w.c, cupboards, leather chairs and writing table.

    GUEST AREAS
    The main guest areas, shaded by a dense forest canopy, consist of a sitting area with fireplaces and verandas with views of the endless game-filled Mara plains. Beautifully hand-crafted artefacts, fine
    antiques, leather buttoned Chesterfield sofas, books, crystal and candlelight will transport guests back to the heyday of the romantic classic safari. A unique feature is the treeshaded lap pool with a view of the Mara. Guests are welcome to visit the Safari Shop at Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp.

    THE SAFARI EXPERIENCE

    Governor’s Camp

    OVERVIEW
    The setting is magical. So much so that almost a century ago it was reserved exclusively for Kenya’s colonial Governors. Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, its waters teeming with bird life, hippo and crocodile. Some of the 37 tents line the riverbank, with uninterrupted views over the Mara River, while others have views across the sweeping plains. Created in 1972, Governors’ Camp set new standards in luxury for a tented camp. Today it’s still one of Africa’s best.

    Created in 1972, Governors' Camp set new standards in luxury as a tented camp, putting particular emphasis on comfort and service, complimented by the sort of good food which would have been impossible in the bygone days of the grand safari. Maintaining these unique qualities as a tradition, the camp has been refined and improved through the years.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Governors' Camp has 37 luxury tents and is located right in the heart of the best game viewing area of the Masai Mara. The entire camp is under canvas with all of the comforts of a luxury hotel. All of the guest tents at Governors' Camp have recently been renovated and upgrade. The guest tents are now much bigger, lighter and brighter with new beige tents, new larger bathrooms and extended verandahs. The camp is looking stunning. Some of the tents have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara, others look over the banks of the meandering Mara River. All tents are classic safari style each with en-suite bathrooms and a private verandah.

    Little Governors Camp

    OVERVIEW
    Little Governors’ is intimate in character, with just 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Vehicles are left on the far river bank, and the camp is therefore quiet and undisturbed.

    ACCOMMODATION
    Little Governors Camp accommodation comprises of 2 Twins, 5 double tents, (tent 17 recommended for honeymooners). All the tents are comfortable and tasteful. Each has an en-suite bathroom, hot running water, even bidets. In keeping with safari tradition lighting is by gas and kerosene lanterns, or by candlelight. As dusk falls, the flickering lights in the forest make the Camp a peaceful and atmospheric place.
