Tawi Lodge

Tawi Lodge is located on a private conservancy of 6,000 acres just five minutes from Kimana Gate, the eastern entrance to Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,963m) – the world’s largest free-standing mountain. Tawi Lodge offers stylish accommodation while visiting Amboseli and also contributes in the promotion of a harmonious development for the wildlife and the Maasai people along the corridor between Amboseli and the Chyulu Hills.

The style of the lodge is a harmonious combination of modern style to give you comfort and traditional style to remind you that you are in Africa. Before and after dinner, relax by the campfire, or at our very special bush bar, and listen to the magical sounds of the savannah all under the spectacular African sky where the stars seem brighter than anywhere else.

The lodge is an eco-friendly operation, which takes maximum care of the environment and its people. It consists of 12 cottages ideally located on bush land facing Kilimanjaro.

Each cottage has its own wooden-deck veranda and a fabulous view of the highest mountain in Africa, even from the comfort of your bed or your bathtub. Double or twin cottages, all have en suite bathrooms fitted with both a bath and shower. Each cottage has its own fire place and a mini bar for those very special sundowners. Lighting and water systems are solar powered. A charging facility for cell phones and camera batteries is available. A butler service is provided for maximum privacy and comfort.

The style of the lodge is a harmonious combination of modern (for your comfort) and traditional (to remind you that you are in Africa).

Porini Camp

Amboseli Porini Camp is located in the Selenkay Conservation Area, a 15,000-acre private game reserve within a vast tract of land owned by the Kisonko clan of the Maasai people. The Conservancy is an
important dispersal area for wildlife moving in and out of Amboseli and holds a wide diversity of species. In addition to the better-known big game like elephant, lion, cheetah, giraffe and zebra, there are several
less common species such as caracal, African wildcat, civet, gerenuk, lesser kudu and striped hyena.

The Camp consists of nine spacious tents, sited among shady Acacia Tortilis trees, in a spot once favoured
by big game hunters. The camp is small and exclusive, accommodating a maximum of 18 guests. It is set
up along the lines of the traditional hunting safari bush camp, so there are no permanent structures like
bar or restaurant or swimming pool – this is real camping in the bush, but with much more comfortable
bathroom arrangements than were available to the hunters of earlier years!

The tents are large and comfortably furnished, each with a double and a single bed, solarpowered electric lights, and en suite bathroom with safari shower, washbasin and flush toilet.

Meals are taken under the shade of an Acacia tree and after dinner we can sit around the campfire and listen to the sounds of the African night. The camp is staffed entirely by members of the local Maasai community apart from the manager and head chef.

Amboseli Porini Camp has specially designed open-sided Land rover 4 wheel drive safari vehicle. Going on safari in a ‘proper’ safari vehicle gives a far better safari experience than traveling in the minibus vans with window seats used by other tour operators! There are no minibuses or other tourists or vehicles in the conservancy, allowing guests to enjoy a unique experience compared to traditional mass-tourist lodges and camps. Masai warriors escort guests on a walk in the conservancy where they can learn about how the various indigenous animals and plants are used by the community and how their way of life is intertwined with their surroundings. Guests are taken to a local Masai village where they can experience a little of traditional Masai village life. Sundowners with views of Mt Kilimanjaro and night game drives are all part of the experience at Amboseli Porini.
